Sagrada Familia Wheelchair Access Review
The Sagrada Familia can be seen towering overhead the Barcelona skyline. I gave it a 3 Star Sage Accessibility Rating because it has an accessible entrance and ramps throughout the visitor path. It did not get a higher rating because of the steepness of the ramps to enter and exit the lower level containing the museum and because the elevator to the towers is not wheelchair accessible.
It can be reached by accessible bus tour, public bus, the metro, or taxi. It has adapted toilets near the entrance, and admission is free for a disabled visitor and their companion.
This view of Sagrada Familia is facing north. The accessible entrance is located on the southwest side of the building on the Nativity Façade.
The Sagrada Familia is very popular and has long lines on many days. To avoid the lines, you can book a private tour or purchase your tickets in advance. If you haven’t done either of these, try to find a staff member to escort you to the accessible entrance.
A staff member will escort you past the turnstiles by opening the gate shown in the photo below. A wheelchair ramp (shown on the photo on the right) leads to the entrance of the church.
There are two routes to reach the elevator to the church towers. Both routes have steps.
After you visit the interior of the church, you will exit out the other side using a step-free exit shown on the left. There is a steep ramp (shown in the photo on the right) that leads down to the museum.
The museum explains the building process of the Sagrada Familia and is wheelchair accessible. After you visit it, you will exit the building and proceed up a ramp to the gate that you initially entered through.
