History of Copenhagen Private Accessible Guided Tour

magasinExperience Copenhagen and over 600 years of history and culture on this 3.5 hour Private Accessible Copenhagen Guided Tour. You’ll see some of the most beautiful and significant buildings, churches, castles and palaces in the Danish capital and learn about the Danish Monarchy, Parliament, Danish culture and traditions, and why Danish people are among the happiest people in the world!

Your accessible historical guided tour of Copenhagen begins by meeting your professional licensed guide at Christiansborg Palace – in the very heart of Copenhagen! For more than 600 years, this beautiful area of town has housed the reigning power of Denmark, including Danish Kings and now the Danish Parliament.

As you make your way around the popular part of the city called Slotsholmen, your private guide will  share fascinating anecdotes and facts about several of the oldest most important buildings throughout Danish history, including Holmens Kirke (Church of Holmen), where the current Queen Margrethe II and her husband Prince Henrik married in 1967 and Børsen, the oldest stock exchange in Denmark built in 1619.

On this accessible guided tour of Copenhagen, you’ll get to walk/stroll on one of the longest pedestrian shopping streets in Europe, Strøget, as you make your way to Nytorv  and Gammeltorv (the oldest square in Copenhagen). Your friendly private guide will also show you some of the most beautiful churches you have ever seen! Vor Frue Kirke (the National Cathedral of Denmark) and the Marble Church are breathtaking structures sure to impress you!

The pedestrian streets ends at the City Hall Plaza from where you will catch a metro to the area of Copenhagen called Frederiksstaden. In this part of the city you will see Amalienborg Castle where the current Danish Queen Margrethe the II lives. Depending on the time of the day, you may experience the traditional change of guard ceremony or see the Queen peak through one of the many window!

The last stop on your historic accessible Copenhagen walking tour is Nyhavn, a 17th-century waterfront, canal and entertainment district located a few blocks from the Queen’s castle. Here, you’ll get to experience and capture the beautiful, colorful, historical canal houses. After the tour, you can opt to stay and enjoy a delicious lunch at an accessible restaurant or cafe right by the water!

Accessibility Description

This Copenhagen Accessible Guided Tour has a 3 Star Sage Accessibility Rating because your your guide will escort you through the city using wheelchair friendly routes. It did not receive a higher rating because you will encounter some cobblestones and the route is approximately 1.5 kilometers long.

During the History of Copenhagen Accessible Guided Tour you will see sights such as Amalienborg, the Royal Palace (shown on the left). You will also have the opportunity to visit Christiansborg Palace (shown on the right), which has housed the Danish reigning powers for more than 600 years!

Most Danes walk or use bikes to get around so you’ll experience sidewalks in most areas. You may experience some cobblestones (as soon on the pictures), however, many places have a wheelchair friendly path that can be used to avoid them.

The area surrounding the residency of the Queen, Amalienborg Castle, is mostly flat, however, you will encounter some cobblestones.

Throughout your walking/strolling tour downtown Copenhagen, your guide will lead you using wheelchair friendly, step-free routes. While much of the older city has cobblestones, there are flat wheelchair tracks in many places.

To help shorten the tour routes, we will use the accessible metro. There is a wide door elevator down to enter the ground level and the metro itself if fully accessible.
