Highlights of Edinburgh Private Accessible Driving Tour
This half-day Edinburgh accessible driving tour is a great way to experience the highlights of the city without having to walk/stroll longer distances between the attractions. While it is an accessible driving tour, there will still be plenty of opportunities for you to get out of your accessible van and experience the Scottish capital firsthand. Note, this tour also includes an interior visit to either Rosslynn Chapel or the Royal Yacht Britannia, depending on your choice.
Your accessible Edinburgh driving tour will begin when your guide and driver pick you up at your accessible Edinburgh hotel. From there, your exciting Edinburgh adventure awaits! On this 4 hour tour, you will enjoy beautiful sightseeing as you make your way through the city center, with your professional guide sharing and explaining the significance and history of each site.
On this accessible Highlights of Edinburgh tour, you will see the famous Grassmarket, which from the late 15th century onwards, was the home to one of Edinburgh’s biggest markets. Today, the site serves as a hub for Edinburgh’s historical pubs with south-side views of Edinburgh Castle. The Grassmarket is also the location where the ancient Edinburgh Gallows were situated between 1477 & 1784. While here, you will drive into St Cuthbert’s Churchyard and look into West Princes Street Gardens.
Following this your driving tour continues with other incredible highlights including Victoria Street, the West End, the Mound and New Town, as well as Holyrood Park. Here you will admire the boasting lochs, glens, ridges, hills and of course, fantastic views of Edinburgh on a sunny day. You will then drive past the new and controversial Scottish Parliament building and then the Palace of Holyrood House (the Queen’s official residence in Scotland. Its history stretches all the way back to the 12trh century and it is most often connected with Mary, Queen of Scots and her son, the first British King, King James VI). There will also be time to see the famous Royal Mile and some of the highlights peppered along it.
Finally, the last part of your tour will be spent on an interior visit to the glorious Rosslyn Chapel OR the historic Royal Yacht Britannia.
The Rosslyn Chapel which was founded in 1446 and has stood on its exposed site for well over 550 years – a tribute to the skills and craftsmanship of its original builders. Its architecture is considered to be among the finest in Scotland. Among Rosslyn’s many intricate carvings are a sequence of 213 cubes or “boxes” protruding from pillars and arches with a selection of patterns on them. It is unknown if these patterns have any particular meaning attached to them. Many people have attempted to find information coded into them, but no interpretation has yet proven conclusive. The chapel has been the subject of theories concerning a connection with the Knights Templar and the Holy Grail, and Freemasonry. It was prominently featured in this role in Dan Brown’s bestselling novel The Da Vinci Code (2003) and its 2006 film adaptation.
Royal Yacht Britannia: Take a visit onboard Her Majesty’s Yacht Britannia, also known as the Royal Yacht Britannia, which is the former royal yacht of the British monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, in service from 1954 until 1997. Step aboard this famous ship and follow in the footsteps of Royalty. From the elegant State Apartments to the gleaming Engine Room. See where Prince William and Prince Harry spent their summer holidays. Discover where kings and queens, world leaders and celebrities were wined and dined; from Frank Sinatra and Liz Taylor to Nelson Mandela and Sir Winston Churchill.
