Budget Wheelchair Accessible Hotel in Venice Italy

This hotel is actually two in one. The main part of the hotel is located in a building containing the reception desk and the breakfast room. The 12 wheelchair accessible rooms are located in a building 100 meters away that hotel staff can bring you to. It’s located in the Piazzale Roma neighborhood which is primarily a neighborhood for commuters….parking, buses, and one (non-accessible) bridge away from the train station. It only has a few restaurant options.

Apart from the hotels on the mainland, this is the only one of the wheelchair accessible hotels in Venice that you can drive to. You can pay to park in a parking garage about 100 meters away from the hotel.

To get here from the Santa Lucia train station, most people take the Calatrava bridge across the Grand Canal. Disabled travelers arriving at the train station will need to take a vaparetto boat one stop up the Grand Canal to reach this hotel. At this end of the Grand Canal, the vaparetto will not be completely full of people so electric wheelchair users and mobility scooters should not have too much difficulty getting on and off the vaparetto.

Because this hotel is located at the opposite end of the Grand Canal from St. Mark’s square, these rooms are cheaper than most rooms in Venice. This hotel, and another nearby budget wheelchair accessible hotel in Venice Italy are good options for visitors looking for cheap accommodation. This hotel is one of the few wheelchair accessible 3 star hotels in Venice that we recommend.

This hotel gets a 4 Star Sage Accessibility Rating because it has ramped access into the building, a wheelchair lift, and a roll-in shower. It doesn’t get a 5 star rating because the seat in the roll-in shower is small and does not have handrails.

These Venice wheelchair accessible triple rooms have a single bed located on the left when you enter the room. A double bed is located straight in front of you and has room for a wheelchair to fit on both sides of it.

The bathroom is large and has a roll-in shower. There is a small seat mounted to the wall. When we stayed at this hotel, the chair mounted to the wall didn’t look very sturdy and was so small that I didn’t use it. Instead I sat on the small bench that is shown in the image below underneath the sink. There is a hand-held shower and a grab bar on one side of the toilet.

This wheelchair accessible hotel is located near the Venice train station but reaching it on foot requires going over this bridge that has steps. Wheelchair users and other disabled travelers can reach the train station by taking the #1 or #2 boat. This hotel is one stop from the train station.

The disabled rooms are located in a building about 100 meters from the main building. The image on the left shows the entrance to an alley which leads to a small ramp at the entrance.

If you are staying in one of the wheelchair accessible rooms on the upper floor (like we did), you will need to take the wheelchair lift. You will need to press the up button two or three times and hold it down during the ride.

The sculpture shown in the image on the left is located near the wheelchair lift. The breakfast room is shown in the image on the right. It is located in the main building which has ramp access.

The staff told me that the cruise ship can be reached by the “people mover” train shown in the picture on the left or using one of the vaparetto that leaves from the dock shown in the image on the right. The parking garage in the photo at the bottom is only 100 meters away from the hotel. There are no bridges between the parking garage and the hotel.
