Start your day by meeting your friendly guide/driver by the cruise dock or accessible Progresso/Merida hotel and head out on a beautiful, scenic ride along the Yucatan coast. Along the way, you will see characteristic pink lakes and salt production areas famous to the region. These areas are famous for the beautiful flamingos that live there so have your camera ready!
Your first stop of the day will be the incredible Xcambo ruins. Historically, this Mayan town was a business city with the main function to provide salt for the Mayan empire. Across the site, you will see beautiful old Mayan temples, the acropolis and salt beds. Your tour guide will escort you around the site and provide you with fascinating insight into Mayan culture and Mexican history.
Next, your tour continues with a stop at one of the Salt Mine sites. Get out to stroll around and admire the beautiful salt mines firsthand and learn about the impact of the salt on the industry of the Peninsula.
After your visit to the Salt Mines, your tour continues to the charming village of Chicxulub where you will visit the site of the Chicxulub crater buried underneath the Yucatan Peninsula. Its center is located offshore. It was formed when a large asteroid or comet about 11 to 81 kilometers in diameter struck the earth.

Accessibility Description:
The Accessible Highlights of Yucatan and Xcambo Mayan Ruins Tour has a 3-star accessibility rating. The route has been customized to make sure it is entirely step-free, and your knowledgeable tour guide is familiar with accessibility in each location. An accessible van equipped with a ramp will be used between the different venues. It did not receive a higher rating because you will experience some uneven terrain at the Xcampo ruins site and the accessible restroom on site does not have a grab bar.
This tour uses an accessible van equipped with a ramp to enter the back of the vehicle. Straps are located inside to secure the equipment.
The Xcambo Ruins site is one of the most accessible Mayan ruins venues in Mexico. Please note that there is a short uneven path leading into the center of the site that you will need to navigate.
The center of the ruins site is glassy and mostly flat.
An accessible restroom has been installed in the small welcome center. It has an extra wide door but there are no grab bars inside.
During your stop to explore the salt mines, you will experience flat surfaces with hard sand that is not difficult to navigate in a wheelchair.
At the top of the hill, you’ll visit Basilique Notre-Dame de Fourvière. The main entrance has steps but there is step-free access into the basilica to the left side.
