Essential Cadiz Accessible Guided Tour

This accessible guided tour of Cadiz is a wonderful way to experience this charming Spanish village firsthand. The tour combines a panoramic highlights drive with an accessible walking/rolling tour of the very heart of the city. You will also enjoy an interior visit to the glorious Cadiz Cathedral!

Your private tour guide will meet you at the cruise terminal or your accessible hotel and escort you on a forty minute a panoramic driving tour discovering the fortified city, its 16th century bastions and castles and their strategic defensive value. Among other things, you will enjoy views of Plaza Espana, the lush botanical gardens of the Parque Genoves, the Alameda de Apodaca, the Caleta beach, the Roman Amphitheater and the original 18th century gates to the city Puerta Tierra.

Following this, you will exit your accessible van by Plaza de San Juan de Dios where your leisurely stroll will begin. This beautiful square with medieval origin has been the administrative and commercial center of Cadiz since the 16th century. It is the home to several breathtaking buildings including the City Hall, the Church of San Juan de Dios and the House of Miranda Pazos. Close to the plaza you will see some street vendors selling local artisan crafts and souvenirs.

Next, you will make your way to the popular Plaza de la Cathedral, where you will see the breathtaking Cadiz Cathedral. This spectacular yellow-domed cathedral is an impressively proportioned Baroque-Neoclassical construction was built between 1722 and 1838. Among other things, the Cathedral has a beautiful clock tower and a fascinating crypt inside.

Following your visit to the Cathedral, you will continue to the colorful Plaza de Las Flores.  This open-air flower market is peppered with open stalls selling beautiful flowers and plants. There are also several small vendors selling traditional foods and drinks. There will be time to sit down and grab a quick bite or some delicious Tapas on your own at one of the accessible street cafes.

Your accessible Cadiz walking tour continues to the charming Plaza de la Candelaria off the beaten track. This hidden gem is a peaceful reminder of everyday life in Cadiz. Lined with orange trees, ironwork lamps and park benches and an ice cream parlor, this is a wonderful stop on your tour.

Your last stop of the day will be Plaza de Espana, a large square close to the port of Cadiz. This impressive square is dominated by the magnificent Monument to the Constitution of 1812. Learn about the history behind the monument, and the significance of the equestrian statues on either side of it. The monument marks the spot where the Constitution was read for the first time. Surrounding the Monument, you will enjoy beautiful gardens with interesting trees and smaller statues.

It did not receive a higher rating because you will encounter mild cobblestones along the way. Please note that the approximate length of the walking/rolling tour is 2 kilometres.

Plaza de San Juan de Dios is mostly flat and smooth. There are no severe accessibility barriers present here.

Plaza de Cathedral is flat with some mild cobblestones. There is a long flight of stairs into the Cadiz Cathedral but these can be avoided by using the long, ramped entrance.

Plaza de las Flores is mostly flat. Some areas are smooth but the majority of the Plaza has mild to moderate cobblestones. No steps or hilly areas.
