On this 2.5 hour accessible stroll around the historic center of the city, your professional private English speaking guide will share fascinating commentary and anecdotes as you pass by impressive castles and churches, charming city squares and other Caen highlights including the unique half-timber framed townhouses. Have your camera ready!
This accessible guided walking tour of Caen starts at your central accessible Caen hotel where your friendly, experienced tour guide will meet you. The wheelchair friendly tour route has been specifically crafted to avoid stairs, steep hills or curbs and severe cobble stones. As you make your way through the historic city center part of Cain, you’ll admire the breathtaking stately mansion built in the 1530’s, Hotel d’Escoville. While the original building was severely damaged during the war, it has since been restored and stands as a memory of Italian influence on early Renaissance Norman architecture. You’ll also get a chance to see the unique former Benedictine monastery, Abbaye aux Hommes, and the famous Saint Pierre Church, built in the early 13th century.
Along this accessible Normandy guided tour, you’ll see beautiful Timber framed houses unique to this part of the region. Your private guide will also make sure you get to experience Place Fontette, where the old 1809 courthouse is located, and Place Saint Sauveur, a charming traditional square close to markets and local shops.

Accessibility Description
I gave the Historic Caen Accessible Walking Tour 3 Star Sage Accessibility Rating. The tour avoids stairs, steep hills and severe cobblestones and there are accessible restrooms located along the route. It did not receive a higher rating because the tour is approx. 2.8 miles long (can be shortened if needed), and due to the age of the city, there will be mild cobblestones along the route.
This accessible tour has been specially designed to assure no major accessibility challenges. The highlights included in the tour have flat, smooth grounds surrounding them, with only mild to moderate cobblestones. Among other things, your guide will take you to see the Famous Saint Pierre Church (see photo on the left) and the historic Monastery Abbaye Aux Hommes (see photo on the right). Both of these stunning buildings have accessible exterior grounds.
This accessible Normandy tour also includes an exterior visit to old courthouse building at Place Fontette and the charming Place Saint Sauveur.
Due to the age of the city, you’ll encounter some mild cobblestones throughout this accessible Caen Walking Tour. If you need an assistant to help push your wheelchair, this can be arranged at an additional fee.
