Get ready for a full day of spectacular views and fascinating history as you embark on this Private Accessible Eagle’s Nest Driving Tour. This memorable Salzburg guided tour includes accessible van transfers from Salzburg to the Kehlsteinhaus ticket area, accessible bus access up the mountain road, and a unique experience exploring the Eagle’s Nest and the spectacular views of the Bavarian Mountains.
This accessible Eagle’s Next guided tour begins when your private guide and accessible van picks you up at your accessible Salzburg hotel. From there, you’ll head to the famous Eagle’s Nest in Obersalzberg and the picturesque Bavarian Mountains. Upon arrival at the Eagle’s Nest Ticket Center, you’ll disembark the accessible van and access a public bus with a ramp to make your way up the road to Eagle’s Nest via a tunnel. Note, vans are not allowed on this road. The bus will take you to the brass elevator which will take you up 124 meters inside the mountain in only 42 seconds! This is a fascinating ride you won’t soon forget! At 1834 meters above sea level, you will exit the elevator and enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of the Alps.
The famous Eagle’s Nest (or Kehlsteinhaus as it is originally called), is a Third Reich-era building erected at the top of the summit of Kehlstein. The Nest as built as a tea house for Adolf Hitler, and was exclusively used by members of the Nazi Party for government and social meetings. Today, it stands as an architectural master piece situated on a ridge on top of the Kehlstein Mountain, and offers visitors an opportunity to visit and learn about the place that is inseparably linked with World War II and it’s history.
Next, on your accessible Eagle’s Nest tour, you’ll enjoy a delicious lunch at an accessible restaurant high on the mountain. For dessert lovers, this place is a paradise (please note, the restaurant is closed on Wednesdays). Cost for lunch not included.
As your unforgettable tour of the Swiss mountains and Eagle’s Nest comes to an end, you will be heading back to your accessible Salzburg hotel on board the accessible van. Accessibility Description:
I gave the Private Accessible Eagle’s Nest Driving Tour a 3 Star Sage Accessibility Rating because a wheelchair accessible vehicle with a ramp will take you to and from the Eagle’s Nest site, and an accessible bus with a ramp will bring you right to the elevator inside the mountain. The tour includes very limited walking/ rolling, and the route used is completely step free. It did not receive a higher star rating because Eagle’s Nest no longer accepts electric wheelchairs or mobility scooters, and it does involve a few places with some hilly walking paths and some rooms inside the Museum are not accessible (there are steps down to several of the rooms inside. You can avoid these rooms if necessary).
The accessible van used for the transfers has a wheelchair ramp (see photo on the left). When you get to the Eagle’s Nest ticket center, you’ll board the accessible bus with a ramp (see photo on the right).
There is a designated space for wheelchair users inside the bus.
After the drive up the mountain, you will exit the bus at this tunnel. Before going in the tunnel, you may want to use the accessible restroom since the one at the top of the elevator is not accessible.
To exit from the sun terrace to the outdoor viewing area, there are 6 steps followed by 2 steps. There is a step-free route from the elevator around the side of the building to reach this outdoor viewing area.
The outdoor viewing area has tables, a refreshment stand and ramps.
